GVHS Course Description Art 3
Recommended: Art 2. This is an advanced level class suggested for the serious Art student. Emphasis is placed on individual expression and the completion of a successful portfolio suitable for presentation to future employers or Art schools. Students must participate in Art shows during the year. The study of historical Art movements and significant artists are important to the completion of many assignments (Students will be expected to read and write about art).
Grading Scale:
100 - 90 = A+ to A-
89 - 80 = B+ to B-
79 - 70 = C+ to C-
69 - 60 = D+ to D-
59 - 00 = F
Grades Based On: Art Projects , Classroom Participation, Research projects, Portfolio: This course is designed to prepare students for Art 4/ AP level courses. Students will earn grades based on various rubrics for each assignment and include elements such as: following directions, effort, neatness, evidence of growth, and meeting measurable objectives that pertain to the project at hand. Students are expected to improve as artists in this class and add to prior knowledge of art skills learned in Art 1 and Art 2. While creativity and self- expression are encouraged, it should not surpass technical skill in level of importance.
Classroom Expectations:
Behavior: All GVHS rules and policies found in the handbook apply to my class. Advanced courses including Art 2, 3, 4, and AP are combined courses. One period may have as many as three different courses being taught at the same time. It is expected that students are aware of this and behave accordingly as attention will be divided among the different art curriculum. Higher level art students are expected to be more self-motivated and serve as a good example to other art classes.
Late Work: If for whatever reason a student missed a deadline to turn in work then each day a homework assignment is late 5 points will be deducted, until it reaches an F. Then students can receive up to 69 points before the end of the 9 weeks. Students are allotted extra time to complete assignments (per the GVHS school policy) when students have an excused absence.
Materials: Pencil, eraser, 24 Crayola Color pack, 18 inch ruler
Projects: All students are responsible for their own projects! If a project is taken out of the classroom to be worked on at home or another room Mr. Her is not responsible for lost or damaged projects.
Bell-Start: Be in class and prepared before the bell rings.
Clean-Up: Depending on what project we are working on and what mediums we are using Mr. Her will tell you when to clean up. After you have cleaned up your working station and packed your belongings away please comeback and sit down at your tables to wait patiently for the bell to sound (Do not crowd by the exit door). Students will not be excused to leave until the classroom is clean.
Financial Obligation: If you lose classroom supplies or break something, you will be put on financial obligation with the bookkeeper. This means you will be required to pay for the item before you graduate.
